Deciding on Which Turnitin Integration To Use

This page reflects changes to Turnitin Feedback Studio that will become active after 11:00 a.m. on January 4, 2024.

There are two different Turnitin integrations in Canvas, Turntin Plagiarism Review, which integrates directly with Canvas online assignments, and Turnitin Feedback Studio, which provides access to the full suite of Turnitin features. (Feedback Studio is the Turnitin integration we had prior to May 2018.)

Use the Plagiarism Review feature in Canvas Assignments if you need to do any of the following:

  • Grade papers through SpeedGrader.
  • Use Turnitin with groups.
  • Use Turnitin with Canvas' Peer Review features.
  • Use Turnitin with Canvas' Rubrics.
  • Allow multiple files to be submitted to Turnitin as part of one assignment.
  • Try out the assignment from Student View with the Test Student.

Set up your assignment with Turnitin Feedback Studio through the External Tool option in Canvas Assignment if you need Turnitin features in addition to plagiarism checking, such as:

  • Use Turnitin for grading. (No integration with SpeedGrader is available in the lastest version.)
  • Use GradeMark features for standardizing grading and comments.
  • Use PeerMark features instead of Canvas' Peer Review features.
  • Use Turnitin rubrics instead of Canvas rubrics.
  • Use ETS Grammar Checker
  • Create Templates (for assignments that require students to fill in forms).Easily pull assignments from different classes.
  • Submit papers for a student to Turnitin.

For more detailed differences, please see: LTI vs. Plagiarism Framework. What is referred to as Turnitin Feedback Studio in this document is labeled LTI 1.3 (new version). Ignore the column for LTI 1.1 (old version) as that is no longer available on our server (as of January 4, 2024).
