Go to VoiceThread Universal to learn how to use new features such as:

  • Sorting options.
  • Import from media sources.
  • Full access to all playback settings.
  • Slide replacing and editing tools.
  • Ability to delete a VoiceThread.
  • Basic stats for VoiceThreads.
  • Full-screen mode.
  • Ability to delete comments.
  • Create and view/hear threaded comments in context.
  • Closed caption and transcript support.
  • Copying VoiceThreads.

VoiceThread is a tool that allows an online discussion around a specific piece of content. The content could be a PowerPoint presentation, audio/video clip, or an image. The instructors and students can make discussion points around the content using any combination of text, audio or video. The comments can be made with a microphone, telephone, webcam or an uploaded file. Learn more about accessibility at VoiceThread's accessibility webpage.

Students may have specific needs that may require accommodation. We've listed some ways below in VoiceThread can be more accessible.

Screen Reader (VoiceThread Universal)

The primary version of VoiceThread is not accessible via screen reader at this time. VoiceThread does offer a version that is designed for use with a screen reader. This version is called "VoiceThread Universal" and can be accessed from the main screen of VoiceThread or by going directly to VoiceThread Universal after logging in.

Captioning for Deaf or Hearing-impaired Students (Standard Application)

VoiceThread video can be captioned or exported and then captioned. If your class includes deaf or hearing-impaired students, you might also consider requiring your students to use text comments only, or put their comments in as an image instead.

ALT Text on Slides

Instructors should consider adding ALT Text to their slides. Here is a support page detailing how to accomplish this.
