VoiceThread is a tool which allows an online discussion around a specific piece of content. The content could be a PowerPoint presentation, audio/video clip, or an image. The instructors and students can make discussion points around the content using any combination of text, audio or video. The comments can be made with a microphone, telephone, web cam, or an uploaded file. Learn more about accessibility at VoiceThread's accessibility webpage.
Students may have specific needs which may require accommodation. We've listed some ways below in VoiceThread can be more accessible.
Screen Reader (VoiceThread Universal)
The primary version of VoiceThread is not accessible via screen reader at this time. VoiceThread does offer version which is designed for use with a screen reader. This version is called "VoiceThread Universal" and can be accessed from the main screen of VoiceThread or going directly to: VoiceThread Universal after logging in.
Captioning for Deaf or Hard-of-Hearing Students (Standard Application)
VoiceThread video can be captioned or exported and then captioned. If your class includes Deaf or hard-of-hearing students, you might also consider requiring your students to use text comments only, or put their comments in as an image instead.
ALT Text on Slides
Instructors should consider adding ALT Text to their slides. Here is a support page detailing how to accomplish this.
If further accommodation is needed, please contact the University of Missouri Disability Center.
