Recording PowerPoint presentations in Panopto for Windows

Following are instructions on how to record PowerPoint presentations in Panopto using single and dual monitor Windows computers.

Single Monitor Computer Video and Text Instructions

  1. On the Panopto Recorder, check the option to Capture PowerPoint and Capture Main Screen (See Fig. 1).
    The Capture PowerPoint option creates the table of contents. The Capture Main Screen option captures PowerPoint animations and annotations and allows for recording of other apps such as webpages or Excel spreadsheets.

  2. Select your audio source from the Audio drop-down menu (See Fig. 2).

  3. After selecting your audio, test your audio by talking in a normal voice to test the volume. You should see a few green bars appear as you talk (See Fig. 3). If you don't see any or see the red and yellow bars highlighted, adjust the volume by using the slider.

  4. Panopto does not have a toolbar that is visible while recording. After you have finished with your PowerPoint presentation, open the Panopto Recorder, select stop and upload.

Dual Monitor Instructions

  1. Launch your presentation in Presenter View mode. The slideshow typically appears on the main screen while the presenter view appears on the second screen.
  2. On the Panopto Recorder, check the option to Capture PowerPoint and Capture Main Screen (See Fig. 4). The Capture PowerPoint option creates the table of contents. The Capture Main Screen option captures PowerPoint animations and annotations and also allows for recording of other apps such as webpages or Excel spreadsheets.

  3. Select the Main Screen tab and check the option to Enable screen capture preview (See Fig. 5).Main screen tab

  4. Verify that the PowerPoint Slide Show is appearing in the preview. If the Slide Show is appearing, continue to step 5. Otherwise, uncheck the Capture Main Screen option and check the Capture Second Screen option. Check each screen until you find the Slide Show.
  5. Confirm that only the screen displaying the Slide Show is checked. 
  6. Select your audio source from the Audio drop-down menu (See Fig. 6).

  7. After selecting your audio, test your audio by talking in a normal voice to test the volume. You should see a few green bars appear as you talk (See Fig. 7). If you don't see any or see the red and yellow bars highlighted, adjust the volume by using the slider.

  8. Panopto does not have a toolbar that is visible while recording. After you have finished with your PowerPoint presentation, open the Panopto Recorder, select stop and upload.
