Enabling a Bypass Pin for In-office Proctored Exams

If students will have the option to take exams in a testing center under a proctor's supervision, please request a Bypass Pin from Honorlock support after enabling Honorlock on the exam. The Bypass Pin allows the student to take the exam without being recorded by Honorlock. The Bypass Pin is unique to each test and does not apply to future exams; you must request one for each test for the course.

Canvas-based Exams

  1. Create the exam in Canvas, then enable Honorlock settings as desired.
  2. Contact Honorlock support chat to request the Bypass Pin.
  3. Include the Bypass Pin in the exam administration instructions you send to the testing center or proctor.
Note: in the event that the proctor was not given the Bypass Pin in the exam directions, the proctor can contact Honorlock support chat to request it. The proctor will be asked to verify their identity prior to being given the code.
  4. The proctor will enter the Bypass Pin via the Accessibility link present on the Data Collection & Use onboarding prompt (See Fig. 1).

3rd Party Publisher-based Exams

  1. Create the exam in your 3rd party publisher interface and take special note of the password you have assigned to the exam.
  2. Enable Honorlock proctoring settings as desired.
  3. Include the exam password in the exam administration instructions you issue to the proctor. Be sure the exam administration instructions state that the student will access the exam from it's corresponding assignment link in your course (not from the Honorlock course link). The proctor will enter the password for the student once the student is on the publisher's site.
