Canvas Inbox

The Canvas Inbox allows users to send messages to one another within Canvas. Instructors and students access the Inbox through the course navigation button within a Canvas site.

How can I use the Canvas Inbox in teaching?

• Send information or updates to an individual student, a section or a group.
• Record a media comment (audio or video) to send to an individual student, a section or a group.
• Send file attachments.
• Use the "Message Students Who..." feature from the gradebook to contact students who have not submitted an assessment, who scored lower than a given grade, or who scored higher than a given grade.

What is unique about the Inbox?

• Set notifications to send messages that you have sent or received to your UM email.

Technical requirements

The Inbox is a part of Canvas, so there is no software to install. The Canvas Inbox will run in your web browser and on almost any internet connection.
