Students

Students can add a preferred first and middle name in MyZou that will update in Canvas. Preferred first and middle names are also used on class rosters, ID cards, transcripts and diplomas and other locations where the legal name is not required.

To add a preferred name in MyZou:

  1. Go to https://myzou.missouri.edu and log in with your Mizzou username and password.
  2. In the Welcome to MyZou section, click the Student CenterĀ link.
  3. Under the Personal Information section, click the Names link (See Fig. 1).

  4. Click the Add a New Name button.

Student employees

Students with a job on campus will need to update their name in PeopleSoft HR and in MyZou. Student employees need to contact their department MU HR officer to change their preferred first and middle name in PeopleSoft HR (See Fig. 2). Student employees should update their preferred first and middle name in MyZou following the above steps (See Fig. 1).

Faculty and staff

Faculty and staff can add a preferred first and middle name in PeopleSoft HR that will update in Canvas. All employees must work with their Human Resources representative to enter their preferred name into PeopleSoft HR (See Fig. 2).
